Joint statement of French and Romanian Ministers [fr]

We noted our agreement on essential principles underpinning the European edifice:

- Freedom of movement and residence is a tremendous achievement which involves rights and duties for all European Union nationals, without any discrimination whatsoever.

- Human dignity and law and order are imperatives which brook no weakness, in line with the "zero tolerance” principle.

- Every European Union Member State has the responsibility of doing the utmost to integrate its nationals, with due regard for freedom of movement and residence as governed by European law.

This agreement has led us to take important operational decisions:

1) Our cooperation in the fight against crime will be strengthened by the dispatch to France of a further ten Romanian police officers and exchange of liaison magistrates.

2) The Franco-Romanian agreement on caring for lone minors will be fully implemented from the beginning of October, following its ratification by France.

3) As regards the reintegration and integration of Romanian citizens in a vulnerable situation, France and Romania will cooperate on the implementation of economic and social development projects.

- Romania will adopt an inclusion plan for Romania’s Roma minority before the end of the year, which will be consistent with the Romanian government’s ongoing efforts, in the framework of the national strategy for the Roma.

- France is ready to support Romania by making her expertise available to her.

- France and Romania will act in concert in the European Union to support the European Commission’s commitment to promoting the Roma’s social inclusion and help obtain the necessary finance./.
